Stanley (Falkland Islands) - Docking
Anchoring
There are plenty of anchorages here protected from the sea, however, protection from the wind is another matter and sometimes it is not possible to disembark.
Anchorage is possible off the centre of Stanley in 5-8metres in good holding although there is considerable fetch in westerly winds.
In strong westerly winds, a quieter anchorage can be found at Moody Brook.
In strong E or NE winds Whalebone Cove, which is at the east end of the harbour, offers a safe anchorage in the lee of the wreck there.
In strong northerly winds anchor along the north shore of the harbour.
Anchor in six – nine meters of water to the West of Navy Point. Vessels should anchor clear of the line of the Leading Lights on the South side of Stanley Harbour.
NO vessels shall anchor to the east of Navy Point without permission from the Harbour Authorities.
Port William
Port William offers a sheltered anchorage in westerly gales. Avoid restricting the fairway along the centre of the sound and do not anchor close to the line of the Leading Lights through the Narrows into Stanley Harbour.
Falklands Interim Port and Storage System (FIFASS)
This is a substantial floating dock system 2NMs east of Stanley. Yachts can moor on the east side. Diesel and water are available. However, it is an uncomfortable, dirty and noisy berth.
Public Jetty
There are pontoons at the Public Jetty in the centre of town. If not in use by cruise ship tenders, the pontoons can be booked by yachts through the Falkland Islands Tourist Board – info@falklandislands.com. Note however, that a sizeable charge is now levied for using these pontoons.
