Moorings and Anchorages in Majuro
Moorings
The mooring situation in Majuro is not ideal.
There are two mooring fields: RRE (north field) and Matt Holly (south field). RRE is closed and not accepting new yachts until field maintenance is performed. There is no scheduled start date for this maintenance. This leaves Matt Holly’s moorings in the south – and cruisers report that in November 2024, he only had one available, functioning mooring.
There are other moorings available, however the quality is dubious and local sailors will likely advise you not to use them. It is advisable to dive down and inspect your mooring and pull back with the engine as 3 to 4’ swells are common during wind reversals.
Matt Holly charges $1/ft for one month of mooring use. Payment can be made via PayPal at matthollymarshalls@yahoo.com.
Anchorages
Anchoring outside this field requires approval from Majuro local government and local land owners (their property goes 6 miles into the lagoon from shore). Mieco Beach Yacht Club Moorings do not require this approval (see below).
Note that during SW and W winds, more rubbish appears in the anchorage than normal and sometimes oil spills from ships anchored in the lagoon.
Services
The Shoreline dock is one of the 2 dinghy docks in Majuro. Use of Shoreline’s dock is a courtesy provided to yachts that fuel up at their pumps. Local long boats have priority space with yacht tenders expected to dock at the ends. If yacht tenders are blocking the local long boats from docking, they will be moved and re-tied with questionable knots! Petrol/gas is easily available here. Diesel requires carrying jerry cans. The better/cheaper diesel, at PII, requires a car ride. Taxis are cheap ($6 round trip).
Currently garbage fees are $4/month (not decreasing) and $4/gallon oil disposal, paid to RRE. To pay the fee, leave your dinghy at the Shoreline dinghy dock and walk to the main road. On the right you will see “Western Union.” To the right is an unmarked glass door. Enter and go through the second glass door on your left. You can pay by the month or you can pay up front for your duration. Any problems, speak with Susan Fowler in the upstairs office.
The garbage bin is located near their “new” apartment complex (07°06.482N / 171°22.311E). Turn right from the dinghy dock and follow the road as it curves around. At the dead end, in front of the two story, yellow apartment building to the right, is a metal trailer and several trash cans. There is no recycling.
Enemanet and Eneko Islands
The Mieco Beach Yacht Club began working on a mooring project for Enemanet and Eneko Islands in Majuro in 2006. Today the moorings are still well-maintained and used by yacht club members, thereby saving the precious reefs from anchor damage.
All the moorings are free for yacht club members on a first-come, first-served basis, with no time limit imposed. Temporary membership is possible for visiting cruisers. See Related Businesses below for more details.
Yachts that tie up to these moorings are welcome to do so at their own risk. It is recommended that the moored yacht inspect the mooring for damage.

Jan 2018 The NTA has rolled out a very good 4G wifi system with expanding coverage, currently, all of Majuro and Ebeye are fully covered. The 4G is easily accessible anywhere in the lagoon and nearshore including the two designated mooring areas. No wifi yet outside Majuro or Kwajalein atolls.
